MILWAUKEE, WI (WSAU) – As the NBA Finals get ready to begin and the NBA Draft nears, two top teams are reportedly expressing interest in making a blockbuster trade for Bucks’ star Giannis Antetokounmpo.
According to Sam Amick of The Athletic, while the Oklahoma City Thunder are unlikely to make a serious offer for Giannis, it’s not “out of the possibility” as the team has several tradeable top picks, including the 12th and 17th overall picks in the 2026 NBA Draft, and stars like Chet Holmgren and Jalen Williams that would be appealing to Milwaukee.
The Thunder were eliminated from the playoffs by the San Antonio Spurs over the weekend, owing largely to their inability to slow down Victor Wembanyama, who averaged 25.6 points and 9 rebounds in the Western Conference Finals. Antetokounmpo has been effective in slowing down Wembanyama in recent years, making him a strong answer to this issue.
The Cleveland Cavaliers have also discussed a possible trade for the former MVP. Still, according to Chris Fedor of Cleveland.com, the team’s front office is unwilling to include 24-year-old center Evan Mobley in the deal, making the trade difficult to complete because the Bucks want to acquire young star talent in exchange for Antetokounmpo, and Cleveland is one of the league’s oldest teams.
To date, NBA insiders believe Antetokounmpo will either stay with the Bucks for the upcoming season or be dealt to the Miami Heat, his preferred destination.
During the NBA Combine earlier this month, the Bucks met with prospects such as Tennessee forward Nate Ament, Louisville guard Mikel Brown Jr., Arizona guard Brayden Burries, Michigan center Aday Mara, and Alabama guard Labaron Philon Jr., who are expected to be selected from picks 8-15 in the NBA Draft.
