Marathon Cty Historical Society -Ain't She Sweet An Exhibit, Women in the 1920's
Woodson History Center, 410 Mcindoe Street, Wausau, WI, USA
Marathon County Historical Society present Ain’t She Sweet – An Exhibit of Women in the 1920s. Explore a time where the role of women was evolving and stereotypes were being challenged.
The 1920s provided women with increased opportunities and freedoms. There were more jobs available for women, participation in sports was made easier with less restrictive clothing and women received the vote in 1920. Women’s clubs and organizations helped both working women and housewives, providing a much needed support system. Our exhibit looks at the 1920s woman through fashion, accessories and most of all their stories.
The Woodson History Center is located at 410 Mcindoe Street, Wausau, Wisconsin. Hours are Tuesday – Friday 9 am to 4:30 pm and Saturday and Sunday 1 pm to 4:30 pm. Admission is free.
For more information, please contact the Marathon County Historical Society at 715-842-5750, email us at info@marathoncountyhistory.org, or visit our website at www.marathoncountyhistory.org

Marathon Cty Historical Society Presents History Speaks-Lost Wausau Architecture
Woodson History Center, 410 Mcindoe Street, Wausau, WI, USA
Join Gary Gisselman at the Marathon County Historical Society for this month’s History Speaks presentation of Lost Wausau Architecture. Gary will explore the story of historic and significant buildings lost to the wrecking ball during the course of Wausau’s history. These lost buildings have been torn down for different reasons over the years. Sometimes for urban development, sometimes massive urban renewal, sometimes buildings are just run down. However these buildings were historically significant and architecturally distinctive, and they were an important part of Wausau religious, cultural, educational, political, and business history. These buildings and what went on inside of them were a reminder of the growth and development of the city and were key ingredients in what made Wausau tick.
Gary Gisselman is currently Chairperson of the City of Wausau Historic Preservation Commission, historian and librarian at the Marathon County Historical Society, and leads historic walking tours throughout the city of Wausau.
This History Speaks program will be presented live at 2pm, Saturday March 29th at the Woodson History Center (410 McIndoe Street, Wausau). History Speaks is presented in conjunction with the Marathon County Public Library and is sponsored by Janke Book Store. This is a free program, no RSVP required.

An ordinary used book shop by day, A Likely Story becomes a magical place each night. Thanks to a spell from the Book Fairy, the characters inside the books come alive each and every night. Six of those characters — Dorothy Gale, Robin Hood, Pollyanna, Sherlock Holmes, Heidi, and Tom Sawyer — long to help Margie, the scatterbrained owner, save her struggling store. But they’re not allowed to leave the building or be seen by human eyes.
So when a pair of bungling smugglers comes looking for a stolen necklace hidden inside one of the books, the characters are torn. Should they warn Margie and risk disappearing forever? Or can they find a way to defeat the crooks without being seen?
Including appearances by other literary characters such as the Queen of Hearts, Long John Silver, and Doctor Doolittle, and with a toe-tapping score from Stephen Murray featuring jazz, march, and pop tunes, this charming musical will enchant audiences young and old.
