MILWAUKEE, WI (WSAU-WAOW) – Bond was set at $20,000 cash, Monday, for a former local recreation coordinator charged with sexually assaulting a teen in Milwaukee County.
Bennet Schmitz, 23, had an initial appearance in court on October 28. The Schofield man faces a felony charge of sexual assault of a student by school staff and two counts of felony child enticement. His lawyer entered a ‘not guilty’ plea on his behalf.
Schmitz was the Recreation Coordinator at the Greenheck Turner Community Center, next to D.C. Everest High School, but court documents show the charges stem from his relationship with a girl during his time as an assistant track coach at Greenfield High School, near Milwaukee. He’s been suspended from his job at the fieldhouse, and has been told to stay off school district property.
He’s next due in court for a sentencing hearing on December 8.
