WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — A Marshfield man has entered a plea to a felony charge for allegedly trying to arrange a sexual encounter with a teenage girl.
Corey Scheunemann, 37, was in Marathon County Circut Court Wednesday afternoon for a preliminary hearing. Scheunemann is facing one felony charge of using a computer to facilitate a child sex crime. At the hearing, Scheunemann was bound over for trial by the court as they found probable cause a crime had been committed.
After being bound over for trial, Scheunemann pleaded not guilty to the felony count. He is currently free on a cash bond of $1,000.
Scheunemann is accused of trying to arrange a sexual encounter with a teen girl he met online. An investigation was launched into Scheunemann in July when he allegedly began communicating with a person he thought was a 15-year-old girl on Facebook Messenger. The teen was instead an undercover officer.
He continued the conversation with the teen and made a plan to meet up for sex. Scheunemann was later arrested by police as he was driving from Marshfield to meet the teen.
He will return to court on January 12th for a final pretrial.
