SHAWANO, WI (WSAU) — A month-long trial for a Shawano County man accused of killing a woman in June of 2022 is scheduled to begin Monday.
Michael Ingold is facing one count of homicide for allegedly strangling the victim, who later died. Investigators say the 60-year-old and the victim had multiple run-ins, including a similar incident in 2021 in which he was also accused of operating a firearm while intoxicated.
The trial will run for 23 days with a four-day break for the Thanksgiving holiday beginning November 28th. Court records show Monday will feature consideration of various motions. The jury will report on Tuesday, November 19th.
Previous attempts at trial came in September 2023, January 2024, and March 2024. Court records show both sides have been going back and forth over the admissibility of evidence, including phone calls made to the Shawano County jail and testimony from certain witnesses. There has also been an attempt to exclude statements made about guns and hand grenades.
If Ingold is found guilty he will face a mandatory life sentence with only the possibility of parole to be left to the Judge. The last scheduled day for the trial is December 20th.
