NEILLSVILLE, WI (WSAU-WAOW) -Charges were filed Thursday against a Neillsville dad nearly two months after his 5-year-old daughter shot her sister in the arm.
The shooting happened in late September at a home on the 500 block of West 7th St. in Neillsville. At that time, authorities said a 4-year-old was shot and was going to be okay.
Brandon Woods, 29, is now charged with two counts of neglecting a child, one with the consequence of great bodily harm, and leaving a loaded firearm near a child.
Woods was playing video games on his computer when his daughter found the loaded handgun under the couch cushion. The 5-year-old told police she thought it was a toy gun until it went “pew” and hurt her sister.
Woods told police he keeps the gun unholstered under the couch cushion when he sleeps there and in his desk drawer while he’s at his desk.
Woods is due in court next month for an initial appearance. If convicted on all charges, Woods faces a maximum penalty of a little more than ten years in prison.
