GREEN BAY, WI (WSAU) – Josh Jacobs, the star starting running back of the Green Bay Packers, appeared in Brown County court on Thursday morning to plead no contest to misdemeanor battery and property damage charges stemming from a May domestic altercation with his now-ex-girlfriend.
According to ESPN’s Rob Demovsky, the property damage charge was settled after Jacobs agreed to no further criminal acts or contact with the victim, court supervision, counseling, and restitution to the victim.
Jacobs appeared in person at the hearing, and Brown County District Attorney David Lasee sought a conviction on the battery charge but agreed to a deferred agreement on the criminal damage to property if he met the five agreed-upon conditions. No jail time was requested, and Jacobs exited the courthouse without answering questions or providing a statement to the media, but did make a statement to the judge during the hearing, saying, “I fully understand the seriousness of the situation, and I take full responsibility.”
In order to enter the deferred agreement on the battery charge, Jacobs was ordered to pay a $1,000 fine as well as other associated charges.
Afterward, his lawyers released a press release on the agreement, saying, “Josh has accepted responsibility for his conduct and resolved this matter. Today’s resolution is set against a career-long history of Josh’s community work while in the NFL, which has centered on the circumstances of his early life.”
With this plea now in place, the league is expected to remove Jacobs from the exempt list in the coming days and issue a suspension, according to the league policy on domestic violence agreed upon in the collective bargaining agreement. The policy lists a six-game suspension for criminal conduct involving domestic violence.
