WAUSAU, WI (WSAU-WAOW) – The Marathon splash pad was originally expected to open in early July, but families are still waiting to enjoy the new and updated amenities.
The 8,000-square-foot splash pad at Marathon Park is one of the largest splash pads across the state. The more than $700,000 project is designed with all ages in mind, including a western portion specifically built for younger children.
Once open, wristbands will cost just $1.50. But before anyone can step into the water, the splash pad still needs to clear its final review.
Marathon County Parks, Recreation and Forestry officials say they’re making a few minor adjustments to meet state requirements. While the county is working to get the project ready, the final review process is in the state’s hands, meaning the county does not control exactly when it will be open. Officials say they don’t yet have an opening date selected.
But once the state gives the project the green light, the county plans to announce the opening date on its website and Facebook page.
