STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU) — A long-anticipated road project begins this week in Stevens Point.
Work begins Wednesday on Business 51, also known as Division Street, in Stevens Point. Early stages of the project will include the closure of Church Street between Business 51 and Water Street. That closure is expected to last through Friday, May 29th.
A full closure of Division Street between Church Street and McDill Avenue begins Monday, June 1st. The first stage will involve a complete closure, with no through traffic allowed. That stage is expected to take up to one month, according to the project website.
Each additional stage is expected to take up to one month to complete. If all goes as planned, work should wrap up by the end of October.
The project involves a full reconstruction of the street, including underground utilities. The project will also narrow the road from as many as four lanes with a shared left-turn lane to two lanes, with some segments featuring a shared left-turn lane.
