DETROIT, MI (WSAU) — A 9th inning home run from Spencer Torkelson lifted Detroit to a 5-4 win over Milwaukee on Thursday.
Torkelson’s shot broke a 4-4 tie and came one inning after Jahmai Jones tied the game in the 8th with a solo shot of his own, his second of the season.
Gary Sanchez and David Hamilton each recorded two hits for the Brewers. Blake Perkins went 1-3 with two RBI and a run scored, part of a three-run 7th inning that gave the Brewers a brief 4-3 lead.
Starter Brandon Sporat did not factor in the decision, going 5.1 innings and allowing three earned runs and four hits. Abner Uribe took the loss after allowing Torkelson’s game-winning home run.
Detroit wins the three-game series 2-1. Milwaukee is now 11-13 on the season and will return home to face Pittsburgh for the first of three on Friday. It’s the first time this year that the Brewers will see an NL Central opponent.
Pittsburgh is 14-10 on the season and in the midst of a six-game road trip while the Steel City hosts the NFL Draft.
