Richard Schneider
STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU) — An Amherst Junction man accused of making threatening statements towards a Tomorrow River School District employee has entered a not guilty plea to the charges.
Richard Schneider faces felony counts for stalking, bail jumping, and making terrorist threats for allegedly sending the unnamed employee multiple messages, including some that made threats towards their family and their role at the school. Officers quickly traced the messages to Schneider, who admitted sending them but didn’t feel they were threatening.
When confronted, he turned his phone over to investigators who matched the messages to those provided by the victim.
Schneider had been out on a $10,000 cash bond, but that was increased to $500,000 after an amended criminal complaint was filed in late February. Amended terms include a no-contact order with two victims, identified by their initials, and the Tomorrow River School.
Should he post the cash, he would also be subject to a GPS monitoring device and would not be allowed to use social media, including Facebook and Facebook Messenger.
Officers provided extra security at the school after the incident due to the nature of the messages, but emphasized that the suspect was in custody.
The 54-year-old will return to court on May 4th and July 6th. He faces up to 15.5 years in prison and $30,000 in fines if found guilty at trial.
