STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU) — The Men’s Senior Open is returning to Central Wisconsin, along with the Women’s Senior Open.
Officials with the US Golf Association have awarded SentryWorld hosting rights for the 2028 US Senior Women’s Open, while the Men’s Senior Open will return to the famed flower hole in 2034. The announcement came on Tuesday from SentryWorld
“We are excited to return to SentryWorld and the state of Wisconsin to conduct these two premier senior events,” said John Bodenhamer, USGA chief championships officer, in a press release. “We know that SentryWorld will be a great test for these championship fields, and the community has always been incredibly supportive of the USGA. Sentry has been a great partner, and we know there will be enthusiastic support from the region and community for these two national championships.”
Stevens Point hosted the 2023 Men’s Senior Open, won by German Bernard Langer. He defeated Wisconsin native Steve Stricker by two strokes.
“SentryWorld was built in part with championship golf in mind,” said Mike James, SentryWorld General Manager. “The 2023 U.S. Senior Open showed that the course can challenge the best players in the world when called upon. Hosting two more USGA championships keeps our focus and attention on maintaining the best version of SentryWorld as possible.”
The 2026 Men’s Senior Open will be held in Ohio, while the Women’s event is scheduled for a course in Michigan. It’s not uncommon for the USGA to schedule events ten years or more in advance. Most of the US Open tournaments between now and 2051 have been awarded, while many of the US Women’s Open events between now and 2048 have been spoken for as well.
Wisconsin has hosted 18 USGA championships, most recently the 2025 U.S. Women’s Open Presented by Ally at Erin Hills. The 2026 U.S. Mid-Amateur will be held at Sand Valley Resort in Nekoosa, and the 2027 U.S. Amateur Four-Ball Championship will be hosted at Erin Hills in 2027.
