MERRILL, WI (WSAU) — Nearly all Zone One snowmobile trails in Lincoln County are scheduled to open at 8:00 AM on Thursday, New Year’s Day, according to a news release from the county’s Forestry, Land, and Parks Department.
Areas that will not open immediately include:
- Corridor 17 south of the County Hwy S/51 Park and Ride at intersection #30 will remain closed.
- Corridor 19 from County Hwy E north to State Hwy 86 will remain closed
Trails in Zones 2, 3, and 4 will remain closed until further notice. The Hiawatha Trail is open for snowmobiles, but not ATVs.
Winter ATV trails in Zone 1 will remain closed until 8:00 AM on Friday, January 9, 2026. All trails are closed to winter ATV use when the temperature is above 28° F.
Officials remind riders that the trails are in early-season condition and may be rough and icy in areas. Please be aware of “TRAIL CLOSED” signs, stay on marked trails only, and respect private lands. The generosity of private landowners makes this trail system possible. Local snowmobile clubs remind riders to stay off lakes and rivers unless a trail has been clearly marked by a club. Please note the 86-trail Lake Mohawkskin crossing is currently closed until marked.
