WAUSAU, WI (WSAU-WAOW) – On Thursday the City of Wausau Fire Department quickly contained a fire in the 500 block of South 5th Avenue.
The fire, caused by a space heater too close to combustible materials, was confined to a single room.
Firefighters from stations 1 and 3 used a thermal imaging camera to locate the fire’s origin and extinguished it. Station 2 secured the water supply and ensured no occupants were inside. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
The fire department emphasized the importance of having working smoke alarms in and outside each sleeping room. The alarms in the home did not activate because they were not installed in the bedroom where the fire started.
