MADISON, WI (WSAU) – One of the Badgers’ most well-known coaches will be staying in Madison for the long haul.
According to a press release from the university, men’s basketball head coach Greg Gard will have his contract extended through May 31st, 2029. Men’s hockey coach Mike Hastings also had his deal extended after a strong first season with the Badgers.
The extensions mean both coaches will continue to work under a five-year deal. WBB coach Marisa Mosley and women’s hockey coach Mark Johnson were also extended.

Gard will head into his 10th season leading the Wisconsin men’s basketball program in 2024–25 and has proven himself to be one of the best head coaches in the Big Ten. Gard, a finalist for Naismith National Coach of the Year in 2022, has guided the Badgers to Big Ten regular-season championships in two of the last four seasons. He was also named Big Ten Coach of the Year in each of those title-winning seasons (2020 and 2022).
In his first nine seasons as head coach, Gard achieved a record of 186-107, which is the third-highest win percentage in school history, behind only Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame member Bo Ryan.
