MARSHFIELD, WI (WSAU) — Marshfield Mayor Lois TeStrake was unopposed this month, but that doesn’t mean she wasn’t sweating out the results on election day.
“I can say I knew I was going [to win] but my tummy was still going whooooo!,” said TeStrake. “It’s part of life. You still have that little bit of hesitance. [It makes you] a real person.”
She says with two years in she feels like she can be more confident and involved in the city’s operations. “I’m learning more about things, so I am able to get out of my comfort zone and do more. I’m pretty excited about that.”
TeStrake says she put out about two dozen yard signs despite not having an opponent. She said she wanted to raise awareness about the election and confirm that she was running for a second term.
She’s also excited about the recent shovel-ready certification for the Yellowstone Business Park. She calls it a “field of dreams” and says if she has it her way the 120-acre site will be filled before her time as Mayor is up.
“We’re going to dream big. Like I said this is my second two-year term, and I hope by the time I’m done being Mayor the field will be gone- there will be business there,” she said.

TeStrake knows a lot of things that need to happen before the site is filled, but if it were up to her she’d like to see Marshfield Clinic bring all of their operations under one building. “OK, it’s a little bit off the beaten path, but if you go around town and see where they have stuff- having it all in one place makes sense.”
