No, Ricki Lake is not sick, is not going through a mid-life crisis or having a mental breakdown.
The former talk show host and “Hairspray” star says, it was time to set herself free. She shaved her head after battling with hair loss since 1988 adding that it's been “debilitating, embarrassing, painful, scary, depressing, and lonely.”
If you've ever had a problem with losing your hair, it's not easy. In 7th grade I was getting bald spots on the top of my head. 7TH GRADE! It started out the size of a dime and then grew to the size of a quarter. The doctor told me it was from wearing too many ponytails. Looking back, I do NOT believe that was the reason. I did get injections that helped the situation.
Hair loss started happening again when I got older, particularly during high stress situations. I finally got my thyroid checked (per the advice of my mom) and YUP! I have
hypothyroidism
, which can lead to hair loss. Once my thyroid was regulated, my hair gross pretty fast. Now to fix the weight thing 😉 haha
If you have any of these symptoms, I highly suggest talking to your doctor. Also, please don't use this blog as your only source for “medical advice” as this is not the purpose of the blog, I'm just sharing my story 🙂
