The Varsity Band continues to earn top ratings at Wisconsin School Music Association (WSMA) Large Group Band contests in Class A competition. In recent years, they have traveled to Chicago, Orlando, Cleveland and Hershey, PA for band contests and clinics. The band begins its season preparing our annual field show for the Homecoming football game before moving on to winter concert materials.
The jazz band program has recently expanded, adding Jazz Ensemble III for any interested musicians in grades 7-8. Jazz Ensemble II and III are open enrollment, available to any student regardless of instrumentation. Jazz Ensemble I is an auditioned, traditional 18-piece Big Band, performing everything from classic jazz to contemporary literature.
Our pep band plays at sporting events year round, supporting our classmates and colleagues. In the last nine years, the Stratford Pep Band has played at over 50 football playoff games, including six state championship games at Camp Randall in Madison.
The Stratford Choir Department begins each year with the production of our fall musical. In recent years, the choirs have produced and performed Beauty and the Beast, You’re A Good an Charlie Brown, Aladdin Jr., and for 2010, Guys and Dolls Jr. These musicals involve each member of the choir in all aspects of stage production, including singing, acting, choreography, stagecraft, lighting, sound and make-up.
The Concert Choir has earned top ratings at WSMA music contests with consistently strong performances. Recently, the Women’s Choir was added to the program, strengthening the program and increasing the opportunities for students to sing and perform.
The Show Choir is a powerhouse vocal ensemble with a strong tradition of energetic and exciting performances. This ensemble regularly earns the right to compete at the state level in WSMA contests where they consistently earn top ratings. This ensemble travels regularly, both out of state and locally. A fixture in the community, this ensemble has long been a favorite of parents and students alike.
In addition to the strong music program, Stratford shines in both academic and athletic pursuits. Athletic offerings include Cross Country, Girls Volleyball, Football, Boys and Girls Basketball, Baseball, Softball and Track. The Stratford Tigers Football program is a dominant force in our conference and in the state. The football team recently ended a run of an unprecedented six consecutive WIAA state championships and continues to be a source of strong community pride.
