My weekend

bachelorette partyToday I'm thinking about the weekend I had and it makes me think about something Kim Kardashian once said, "I don't drink alcohol at all. My sisters drink, so when they get a little crazy, I am there to pull them down." Well, I may be able to keep up with one Kardashian because this past weekend I was the one pulling the crazy ones down.

I am the Matron of Honor in a wedding coming up Memorial Day weekend in Traverse City Michigan, which is an 8 hour drive so we decided to meet half way for the bachelorette party this past weekend, in Escanaba. In this picture from left to right, Me, Cat (from Rapids), Alayna (the bachelorette from Traverse City), Connie (from Green Bay) and Amy (from Escanaba).

We had so much fun, some of us more than others which is why my motherly responsible gene kicked in, and I called a cab to come pick us up early. Cat and Alayna and I were the only 3 to stay in the hotel. Thank God for the young man working at the front desk for the overnight shift! By the time we got back to the hotel both Cat and Alayna needed to be helped inside. Alayna couldn't even make it to the room before she needed to make a pit stop which turned into an hour and a half visit to the bathroom. So the nice guy took Cat upstairs for me and put her to bed.

Well, about half way through our extended pit stop in the bathroom off the lobby all the power in the hotel goes out! Not good timing, and it lasted for over 3 hours so we couldn't wait it out. I had to go on the hunt for a flashlight to find my phone so we could have some light and find our way upstairs to our room. So the bachelorette thought it safer for her to crawl upstairs rather than try to stumble around with me in the pitch darkness guided only by the light of my cell phone. The hotel guy thought this was the funniest thing he'd ever seen he wanted to take a video on his cell phone, but decided against it...he was so nice.

So I was thanking God that I was smart enough to stay sober that night, but I was even more happy the next day. Poor Alayna, miss bachelorette, had a 4 hour drive ahead of her and she was sick all morning! She thought she was feeling better so she hit the road and made it an hour and a half before she pulled over for an hour to sleep. Poor thing! The best part about being the babysitter rather than being babysat is that I can remember every detail and laugh when I look back on it. When she looks back on it she'll remember the agony of it all.

This is why I'm with Kim Kardashian, it's better to look out for the crazies than be one. Take care of them when they need you and laugh at them when it's over.

Congratulations Alayna!
