STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU) — A discussion about the future of Business 51 in Stevens Point, also known as Division Street, has been scheduled for October 6th.
Mayor Mike Wiza says the session will be held in the auditorium at Stevens Point Area Senior High (SPASH) at 1201 Northpoint Drive. The event begins at 6:30 and is scheduled to last for up to two hours.
“We’re going to have representatives from AECOM, The Wisconsin Department of Transportation and City staff all available”, said Wiza in a press release. “We’ll have a short presentation of where we are in the design after talking with many of the business owners and residents along that corridor, and then we’ll have some time for questions and answers about where we can and cannot go from here.”
City leaders had approved a 30% design plan for Business 51 improvements, but many residents were unhappy with the designs and said they felt the city had left them out of the discussion about the plans.
Some business leaders petitioned the city for a binding referendum in August that requires public approval for any transportation-related public works project costing more than $1 million, which passed. Residents will consider four such referendum questions during the November election.

Wiza adds that every resident in the city will be receiving a postcard within the next 7 days with more information about the October 6th meeting, and the city is also organizing informational campaigns on the four transportation referendum questions that voters will consider as well.
