Free Public Open House for the 27th EAA AirVenture Cup Race

Wausau Downtown Airport in Wausau, WI will be the site of three days of exciting aviation events starting July 18 and concluding on July 20 where approximately 100 unique aircraft (over 35 race classes) start the race of more than 400 nautical miles. The race will launch and finish at the Wausau Downtown Airport.
The EAA AirVenture Cup Race provides pilots and aircraft builders the opportunity to race their aircraft in a safe and fun environment, all while promoting aviation in and over the communities where the races are held. The first race, in 1998, started in Kitty Hawk, NC, with 10 aircraft and has grown to the major aviation event it is today.
The three-day event begins on Friday afternoon, July 18, with pilots arriving from around the country in a variety of different aircraft.
On Saturday, July 19, AirVenture Cup Race participants, in partnership with Wausau Flying Service at Wausau Downtown Airport, will host a free airport open house from 9 am to 4 pm, where spectators will be invited to visit the race pit, inspect the race planes, talk to competing pilots about the race, and learn more about the airport and general aviation. There will be a pancake breakfast available on Saturday from 7:30-10:30 and Sunday from 6:30-9:30 hosted by the local Kiwanis Club.
On Sunday, July 20, spectators are welcome to watch the planes line up and depart, beginning at 9 am, weather permitting. The racers are expected to begin arriving back in Wausau at 11 am. The race helps kick off the annual EAA AirVenture Oshkosh fly-in and convention. Media are welcome to attend for photo opportunities.
All activities are weather dependent and take place at Wausau Downtown Airport, 725 Woods Place, Wausau, WI 54403. To learn more, visit www.airventurecuprace.com.
