Marathon County Historical Society History Speaks: Historic Clarke Island




Clarke Island has long been at the center of the commerce and industry of Wausau. In this program, Dave Eckmann, takes us through the history of the island from the community’s foundational years to becoming the new home to the Chamber of Commerce - with particular emphasis on the story of the Chicago & Northwestern railroad depot and WPS powerhouse.
David Eckmann currently serves as the President/CEO of the Greater Wausau Chamber of Commerce. Dave attended Arizona State University earning a bachelor’s degree in political science and Master of Public Administration. He completed his Doctorate of Higher Education Leadership from Edgewood College in August of 2017 and graduated from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Institute of Organizational Management (IOM) in June of 2022. He also served in the United States Army as a combat medic from 1983 to 1986 – participating in the Multi-National Sinai Peacekeeping Force in 1984. He brings over 25 years of economic and community development experience to his current role of building thriving and competitive communities.
This History Speaks program will be presented live at 2pm, Saturday May 31st at the Woodson History Center (410 McIndoe Street, Wausau). History Speaks is presented in conjunction with the Marathon County Public Library and is sponsored by Janke Book Store. This is a free program, no RSVP required.
