MAUSTON, WI (WSAU) — The man accused of killing three females and running from police for more than a week in early 2025 remains on track for a jury trial in December.
Virgil Thew was in a Juneau County courtroom on Tuesday, where a judge confirmed a pool of 150 potential jurors will be narrowed to a panel of 12 with three alternates. The group will be allowed to take notes, but questions during the trial will not be allowed.
The trial is scheduled to begin Tuesday, December 1st, and wrap up by Friday, December 11th.
The 49-year-old is accused of killing 33-year-old Elizabeth Kolba and two girls, ages 12 and 13, in their home. Investigators say he left their bodies in a locked bedroom before running. He remained on the loose for more than a week before he was arrested in a nearby town.

Charges against Thew include three counts of intentional homicide and hiding a corpse. He also faces single counts for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and stealing a vehicle. The list also includes a misdemeanor count of obstructing an officer.
He faces a mandatory life sentence if found guilty on the homicide charges alone.
A final motion hearing will be held on November 16th.
