WISCONSIN RAPIDS, WI (WSAU) — Wisconsin Rapids District 7 Alder Michael Timm says he is not going to resign after his peers on the Council voted to schedule a recall election for his seat.
In a Facebook post, Timm says his comments to management at the Hotel Mead came from his personal email account and did not include threats or attempts to intimidate the establishment. “[I] shared my opinion that selling those signs in the bar could hurt their business, given how divisive the data center issue has become. We all value the Hotel Mead, and my concern was for their continued success. The GM at the Hotel Mead replied by email and agreed with that assessment. There was no threat, no demand, no ultimatum, and no suggestion of any consequence if they declined. It was simply my opinion. They considered it and voluntarily agreed,” Timm wrote.
He also shared screenshots of the email and response from Tucker Christensen, the GM of the Hotel Mead, who said he wanted the hotel to have “no part in” the discussion about the potential development because he knew how controversial the topic could be.
“Businesses have every right to decide what they sell on their own property. In this case, the Hotel Mead made its own decision and communicated it clearly. I respected their response then, and I respect it now. The emails are a matter of record and speak for themselves,” Timm Continued. “While these issues have drawn undo attention, I remain focused on the positive work we have accomplished together. That includes supporting the Safe Haven Baby Box, advancing a sex offender residency ordinance, opening our city to ATVs and UTVs, and working to balance the city budget during a shortfall—along with many other efforts that strengthen Wisconsin Rapids.”

The recall election is scheduled for October 27th. Those interested in running should submit their paperwork to the City Clerk’s office by September 29th, including a Campaign Registration Statement, Declaration of Candidacy, and nomination papers. The winner will serve until April 2027.
