WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — With school back in session, the Wausau Police Department is reminding drivers to stay alert in school zones.
In a Facebook post, officers said they’ve fielded “numerous” complaints about risky driving in school zones.
The Department also shared a video of a driver failing to stop at a crosswalk near John Muir Middle School. “Thankfully, no one was hurt in this incident, but it highlights how quickly things can go wrong when drivers aren’t paying attention.”
Drivers are reminded that the speed limit in a school zone is 15 MPH when children are present. Drivers must also obey orders from crossing guards.
Officers say they will continue to step up patrols in school zones.
