WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — A Weston man is now facing attempted homicide charges in connection with a shooting one week ago.
Jacob Lo was in court on Friday, where a judge ordered him held on a $250,000 cash bond. Officers say the 23-year-old was seen on surveillance video interacting with the victim at the M&R Station during the early-morning hours on Sunday, August 2nd.
The victim was shot outside the bar but was able to drive themselves to a Wausau hospital for treatment. Surveillance video shows puffs of smoke, consistent with gunfire, coming from a vehicle just before it fled the scene. Officers would later learn that the vehicle had been loaned to Lo.
A warrant was issued for his arrest on August 5th. Later that day, officers spotted him driving in Wausau and attempted to pull him over. He evaded, leading officers on a chase along Interstate 39 into Kronenwetter, which reached speeds of 120 MPH. He made a U-turn through the median, then traveled south in the northbound lane. The chase finally ended in Weston when he crashed into a squad car and fled on foot before he was arrested.
The pursuit, which occurred during heavy midday traffic, caused at least two crashes in Weston and one near-miss in Wausau.
In addition to one count of attempted homicide, Lo faces felony charges for being a felon in possession of a firearm, discharging a firearm from a vehicle, fleeing an officer, and recklessly endangering safety. Charges against him carry repeat modifiers, with court records showing he was out on bond for a domestic abuse case in Marathon County, which will now proceed along with the new charges.
His bond includes a full no-contact order with five people, identified by their initials in court records. Lo returns to court for a preliminary hearing on August 17th and a pretrial conference on September 21st.
