MILWAUKEE, WI (WSAU) — A 10th inning RBI single from Garrett Mitchell gave Milwaukee a 2-1 victory over Miami to open the ceremonial second half of the baseball season on Friday.
Mitchell and Joey Ortiz both finished the game 2-4 and accounted for the run-scoring hits. Ortiz added a solo home run in the bottom of the 5th.
Christian Yelich and Luis Lara each added singles.
Logan Henderson went five innings and allowed three hits. Miami scored one earned run off him, a Griffin Conine home run to center field. Five relievers then teamed up for the next five innings and allowed just four hits the rest of the way, including Chad Patrick, Aaron Ashby, and Trevor Megill.
Craig Yoho would get the win after pitching a perfect 10th.
Milwaukee improves to 60-37, marking the earliest the Brewers have ever reached the 60-win mark in franchise history. The same two teams will play again this afternoon. Coverage begins at 2:35 on WSAU.
