WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — The Red Cross is putting out another call for blood donations after declaring an emergency blood shortage for the region.
Leaders say a steep drop in scheduled donations at the end of May has “created a growing gap between supply and patient need,” according to a news release.
Those who can donate are encouraged to make an appointment as soon as possible. Additionally, anyone who donates between now and July 31st will receive a free movie ticket from Fandango, valued at up to $15.
Those eligible to donate must be 17 years of age in most states (16 with parental consent where allowed by state law), weigh at least 110 pounds, and be in good health. High school students and other potential donors under 18 must also meet certain height and weight requirements.
Appointments can be made online at redcrossblood.org, and pre-appointment screening questions can now be answered online or via the Red Cross Blood Donor app before you arrive.
It’s the second time this year the Red Cross has put out an urgent call for blood donations. Officials also warned of low blood supply in late May, noting that the time between Memorial Day and Labor Day is traditionally the slowest time of the year for blood donations.
