BEAVER DAM, WI (WSAU) – One of Wisconsin’s most popular tourist sites collapsed on Wednesday due to severe storms that swept through the state’s southeastern area.
According to WMTV, the well-known blue Culver’s barn with the words “Thank You, Farmers” visible from US-151 was severely damaged and collapsed after powerful winds from a tornado in April weakened the structure, leaving it vulnerable to future storms.
In an interview with the outlet, Michael Zimmerman, the barn’s owner since 1976, said he was home when the storm moved through and that the barn was due to be repainted next month.
In a Thursday post on X, Wisconsin Republican Congressman and gubernatorial candidate Tom Tiffany spoke about the barn’s damage, saying, “There’s no wrong way to grieve, but eating a ButterBurger feels like the right way.”
Culver’s launched the Thank You Farmers Project in 2013 to thank local farmers, which included the construction of numerous hand-painted blue barns across the Midwest, including two in Mineral Point and Beaver Dam, Wisconsin, as well as two in Argenta, Illinois, and Greenfield, Indiana.
