WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — Wausau Mayor Doug Diny has named the city’s next MetroRide Director.
Ron Schuenke has taken the role, effective March 29th. Mayor Doug Diny says Schuenke is already making an impact on the system.
“Although relatively new to the Metro Ride system, Schuenke has rapidly advanced due to his strong dedication and relentless pursuit of excellence,” said Diny in a press release. “In his short time with the department, he has demonstrated outstanding leadership, successfully managing daily operations, advancing critical projects such as the facility condition assessment and feasibility study for the transit garage, and ensuring continued high-quality service for riders. His rapid rise reflects his dedication to excellence and his focus on delivering reliable, efficient public transportation for our community. We are confident he will continue to build on this momentum in his permanent role.”
Schuenke is the latest full-time Director for MetroRide, a role that has struggled to find stability since the retirement of long-time Director Greg Seubert in early 2023. There have been two short-term hires since then. Matthew Rosenbloom-Jones lasted just a few months before he quit in mid-2023. Arran Hersey followed, but he resigned in August 2025 after he was charged with an OWI in downtown Wausau.
