MERRILL, WI (WSAU-WAOW) – Katelyn Nardi pleaded not guilty to first-degree reckless homicide and neglecting a child at a preliminary hearing in Lincoln County court.
The charges stem from the drowning of Nardi’s 5-year-old daughter in a bathtub at a Merrill residence. Merrill police and fire department ambulance crews were dispatched to Nardi’s home on the morning of October 22. According to a criminal complaint, Nardi’s fiancé told officers that Nardi was giving her daughter a bath and left the bathroom for about five minutes to pick out her daughter’s pajamas.
When she returned, her daughter was found unresponsive. According to the complaint, Nardi told officers she took her out of the bath and began CPR, while her fiancé was outside, on the phone, waiting for an ambulance to arrive.
Nardi’s daughter was on prescribed medication, but officers were told that no medication was taken the day of the incident, with her last dose being the night before.
Nardi’s will have a telephone scheduling conference on June 4.
