MILWAUKEE, WI (WSAU) — The two candidates vying for a ten-year term on the Wisconsin Supreme Court will not meet tonight for a televised debate.
Appeals Court Judges Maria Lazar and Chris Taylor were scheduled to debate at the Marquette Law School at 7 PM. But Taylor announced she would be pulling out of the event at noon today, saying she woke up feeling ill.
“This morning Judge Taylor visited urgent care after waking up feeling unwell. Physicians then recommended she visit the hospital for additional evaluation,” read a statement from the Taylor campaign.
Her team adds that she is open to rescheduling the debate to provide “an opportunity for voters to hear from both candidates before Election Day.”
While the race is officially non-partisan, Taylor has the backing of liberals, and Lazar is the favorite of conservatives.
The winner of the April 7th election replaces Rebecca Bradley, who chose not to seek re-election this year.
The Supreme Court election is held alongside other local, non-partisan elections.
