RHINELANDER, WI (WSAU-WAOW) – Governor Tony Evers has approved a $6.2 million project to improve US 8 in Oneida County, slated to begin in April 2026. The project will enhance the stretch between WIS 47 and WIS 17 North in the town of Pelican.
An informational meeting is set for April 2 at Rhinelander City Hall. The meeting will start at 5pm providing details on construction, traffic impacts, and scheduling.
Musson Brothers is the main contractor for the project. Plans include removing existing pavement, paving new asphalt, and adding centerline rumble strips. Key intersections will also see upgrades, including new single-lane roundabouts.
During construction, US 8 will be closed and traffic will be detoured. Completion is expected by November 2026, contingent on weather and progress.
