PORTLAND, OR (WSAU) — The Wisconsin Badgers couldn’t avoid the dreaded 12-over-5 upset, falling to the Big South Conference Champion High Point University Panthers 83-82 in the first round of the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Tournament.
Nick Boyd and John Blackwell led the Badgers with 27 and 22 points, respectively. Blackwell added ten rebounds.
Austin Rapp scored 12 points, but the scoring dropped considerably from there. Nolan Winter chipped in eight points off the bench, and Andrew Rhode added six.
The game was close most of the way, with Wisconsin never holding a lead of more than eight points.
High Point advances to play on Saturday against either Arkansas or Hawaii. Wisconsin’s season ends at 24-11.
