MOSINEE, WI (WSAU) — One former Mosinee Mayor is honoring another.
Representative Brent Jacobson has released a statement following the death of his successor, Pete Nievinski, last week.
“I am greatly saddened by the news of Mayor Nievinski’s passing,” said Rep. Jacobson. “As a lifelong resident of Mosinee, Mayor Nievinski dedicated decades of his life to serving our community both in and outside of local government. I had the pleasure of working closely with him during my time as Mayor, where he was a model for civic engagement and local leadership. Pete’s kindness and compassion for others is a great loss for our community. He is sorely missed, and my thoughts and prayers are with his friends and family during this difficult time.”
The 87th Assembly District Representative resigned in late 2024 after winning his current seat in Madison. Nievinski then defeated Keith Brod in the April 2025 election.
He stepped down in mid-February, citing a recent health diagnosis. He did on Friday, March 13th. No cause of death was listed in his obituary.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Nievinski will take place at 10:30 AM, on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, at St. Paul Catholic Church, Mosinee. Father Aaron Becker will officiate. Visitation will be from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Tuesday, April 14th, 2026. Visitation will be held again from 9:00 AM until the time of services, all at the church. Beste Funeral Home, Mosinee is assisting the family with the arrangements. Online condolences can be directed to the family at www.bestefh.com.
Those who would like to make memorial contributions in Nievinski’s honor have been asked to donate money or supplies to the Humane Society of Marathon County.
