WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — The Wisconsin Department of Transportation has issued a no-travel advisory for much of the state, a sentiment being echoed by many local officials as well.
Highways across Central Wisconsin are “completely snow covered and impassable,” according to an afternoon update from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation. Officials add that blowing snow will cause drifting and reduce visibility, with another round of snow expected early Monday morning.
Local public works and law enforcement crews are also encouraging residents to stay off the streets. “Every unnecessary vehicle on the road creates additional hazards and can delay plows and emergency responders trying to reach people in need,” read a Facebook post from the Marathon County Sheriff’s Office.
Most local businesses have already announced closures for Monday. Marathon and Portage Counties have also closed their circuit courts. All appearances will be rescheduled, and filing deadlines will be extended by one day.
