WAUSAU, WI (WSAU-WAOW) – Snowmobile enthusiasts in Marathon County should take note of the latest trail updates.
As of Sunday, Zone 2 will join Zones 1, 3, 4, 5, and 6 in closing, resulting in all zones being closed.
Trail conditions are currently described as early season with some areas being non-groomed and featuring rough or icy spots.
Marathon County Parks, Recreation and Forestry is urging riders to exercise caution, particularly at water and creek crossings. Riders are reminded to remain on open trails, as off-trail riding is considered trespassing and could lead to trail loss or citations.
Respecting closed trails and private property is crucial for the preservation of snowmobile clubs’ efforts.
For those interested in Winter ATV use, trails will typically open to ATVs 10 days after being accessible to snowmobiles, provided the air temperature remains below 28 degrees.
