Wisconsin Badgers
CHAMPAIGN, Ill (WSAU) — The Wisconsin mens basketball team pulled off an upset as they knocked off #8 Illinois 92-90 in overtime on Tuesday night.
The Badgers took an early lead of 18-10 but Illinois led at halftime 44-38. The Badgers went on a 8-0 run to begin the second half but the Illini went on a run of their own to lead by 12 with just over eight minutes to go.
With Wisconsin up by one near the end of regulation Keaton Wagler was fouled but only made one of two free throws to send the game to OT.
The Badgers scored the first six points of the OT and never trailed again. A three point heave at the end fell short for the Illini.
Nick Boyd had 25 and John Blackwell 24 for Bucky. Boyd was 10-19 with 19 points in the second half. Austin Rapp had 18 points off the bench with four three-pointers. Wisconsin hit 16 three-pointers, a season high.
The win was the second against a Top Ten team this season and leaves the Badgers at 17-7, 9-4 in the Big Ten. They will host Michigan State on Friday.
