Heather Zynda
WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — One of three people charged with mistreating animals as part of an investigation into two dog kennels in the Wausau area has pleaded not guilty.
Heather Zynda was bound over for trial on Monday and entered the plea to seven counts: two felony charges for mistreatment of animals- causing death, and five misdemeanors for intentionally mistreating animals.
The 50-year-old owner of Crossroads K9 in Kronenwetter came under scrutiny after her partner’s business, Central Wisconsin K9, was raided in October. Officers found multiple dogs living in deplorable conditions with limited access to water, food, and outdoor exercise time.
Investigators say Zynda was keeping dogs in similar conditions at her business. They have since been turned over to the Humane Society of Marathon County.
At least two dogs died while in her care, leading to the felony counts.
Zynda is free on a $5,000 signature bond. Further court action is scheduled for February 24th.
