MERRILL, WI (WSAU) — The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office and Clerk of Courts are warning residents about a jury duty scam.
Some residents have received a phone message saying they missed “Grand Jury duty” on January 12th. The message comes from a spoofed Mosinee number, 715-814-3041. When called, the number will ring to a voice mailbox identified as “Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office.”
“We assure you, this is not us,” officers said in a Facebook post. “If you are suspicious, hang up and call our official number at 715-536-6272.”
Officers add that most official county business will be conducted in person, though the county may contact you by phone at times.
As always, you are encouraged to remain vigilant and not share personal information, such as a credit card number, Social Security number, or banking information, with anyone you suspect is suspicious.
