MOSINEE, WI (WSAU) — United Airlines is returning to Central Wisconsin Airport and will bring more flights with it. Mark Cihlar, Assistant Airport Director at CWA, says they initially left the airport in 2021 due to the challenges COVID brought, including pilot shortages, crew shortages, and aircraft shortages. These obstacles eventually led to the decision that the airline would leave CWA.
Cihlar says, “United had to make some strategic decisions that, unfortunately, affected Central Wisconsin Airport, but the community well utilized these flights, and it was really disappointing to see them leave.”
When United called to say they were ready to return, it created a lot of excitement from the staff and the community. Cihlar states that with this new expansion, more people will be able to fly. He also mentions the possibility of adding more one-stops to other cities besides Chicago and Minneapolis.
John Pavelski, Portage County Executive, Says It allows businesses and people to save as much time as possible. “It’s time. Time is very short for people nowadays; they don’t want to spend time waiting in lines, they don’t want to spend time waiting in airports, they want to get to their destination as quickly as possible.”
The Airline will be returning to CWA on May 21st, 2026.
