STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU-WAOW) – UW-Stevens Point and the Stevens Point Area School District teamed up to host the first official Education Day at the Quandt Fieldhouse.
More than 1,600 third through sixth graders filled the campus to watch the women’s Pointer basketball team play Concordia University.
“We partnered with UWSP athletics, school of education and the Stevens Point area school district to really try to put on an event to get students from the area, feet on campus and have a really fun exciting day,” said Ann Hockett, one of the head organizers, and an associate professor with UWSP.
The students had a fun-filled day interacting with cameras, cheering on the Lady Pointers, and participating in activities like the reindeer antler toss, musical chairs, and chuck-a-duck.
“Unloading the buses, we just had flocks of kids out there smiling and yelling, and it’s joyful, it’s what the holidays should be,” said Brenna Steinagel, a senior at UWSP, and one of the student organizers.
For student volunteers, it was one of the most anticipated days, and for the players, one of the most exciting games.
