WISCONSIN RAPIDS, WI (WSAU) — The former Outreach Director at St. Vincent de Paul in Marshfield made a court appearance on Tuesday for charges related to theft and fraud in a business setting.
Trisha Hebert is accused of stealing and mismanaging more than $108,000 from the charity, including cash withdrawals and purchases made for personal expenses.
The 37-year-old said she was using the funds to help clients with their mortgage payments and other expenses, but investigators believe she was using the funds to fuel a gambling habit.
On Tuesday, Hebert was told to fill out additional paperwork to petition for a court-appointed attorney after being told she didn’t qualify for a public defender. She has not entered a plea to the charges.
Hebert faces three felony counts for theft in a business setting, fraudulent use of a credit card, and fraudulent writings by a corporate officer. Charges carry a maximum of 28.5 years in prison if found guilty at trial.
Further court action is scheduled for January 6th.
