MADISON, WI (WSAU) — A Wausau man has been sentenced to seven years in federal prison on drug trafficking charges, according to a press release from the US District Court in Madison.
Christopher Harter pleaded guilty to the charges on Tuesday and was sentenced by Judge William Conley on Wednesday. The 49-year-old was found with more than 80 grams of fentanyl and heroin on him during a traffic stop in March. That discovery led to a search of his home, which turned up another 50 grams of meth along with drug paraphernalia, including a scale and drug ledger.
The stop came one month after the Central Wisconsin Narcotics Task Force identified Harter as a Wausau-area drug dealer. His sentence also includes five years of supervised release.
At sentencing, Judge Conley noted Harter’s long-standing history of selling drugs and prior convictions for drug-related conduct. Judge Conley also noted that Harter continued to degrade his community by selling drugs.
The charges against Harter were the result of an investigation conducted by the FBI’s Central Wisconsin Narcotics Task Force with assistance from the Drug Enforcement Administration. Assistant U.S. Attorney Taylor L. Kraus prosecuted this case.
