TOWN OF EAU PLINE, WI (WSAU) — The Portage County Sheriff’s Office rescued two people and two dogs from Lake DuBay on Tuesday afternoon.
First responders were called to an area of the lake near Brockhaus Lane in the Town of Eau Pline at about 3:30 PM. The first officer to arrive, Deputy Brad Mathwich, found a man and a woman struggling in the water about 25-50 feet from shore.
Deputy Mathwich immediately entered the water and guided them to shore. The 80-year-old woman and 54-year-old man were evaluated by medical personnel at the scene.
The dogs were rescued a short time later by a specialized ice-water rescue unit. They were taken to a nearby animal care facility for treatment and evaluation.
No further details, including the names of those involved, were released. Responding agencies included the Portage County Ambulance, water rescue teams from Stevens Point and Plover, Rudolph Fire and EMS, and the Town of Hull Fire Department.
