MILWAUKEE, WI (WSAU) — Eduardo Flores-Ruiz, the illegal immigrant who avoided ICE agents with a judge’s help, has been deported.
A tweet from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security on Friday said he has been deported from the United States. It’s unclear if he was returned to his native Mexico or to another location. Flores-Ruiz’s attorney has not commented.
Flores-Ruiz appeared in front of Judge Hannah Dugan earlier this year on a domestic violence charge. ICE agents arrived at the courthouse to arrest him for being in the country illegally. Judge Dugan allegedly told ICE agents to wait outside her courtroom while she allowed Flores-Ruiz and his attorney to exit the courthouse using a private hallway near the jury room. He was arrested after a brief foot chase, a short time later.
Dugan is charged with interference with a lawful arrest warrant and obstructing federal law enforcement.
Her lawyers argue the case should be dismissed under judicial discretion. In a more recent court filing, Dugan’s lawyers suggest that the chief administrative judge suggested that the suspect be allowed to leave through the private hallway.
