Ed Deyo
STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU) — A Portage County man was found guilty of harboring a felon after he helped hide a man wanted for shooting at a police officer in Sauk County.
Ed Deyo was found guilty on Friday, according to court records. The three-day trial wrapped on Friday, with the verdict delivered at about 2:45 PM.
About 10 witnesses were called to the stand, including Deyo.
The case stemmed from a multi-day standoff in Amherst that occurred in the summer of 2024. Investigators say the 62-year-old picked up the suspect at a gas station in Coloma and brought him to his house.
Officers used digital evidence, including an IP address associated with his social media accounts, to Deyo’s home. They moved in with tactical teams, and the standoff ensued. The suspect eventually died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Deyo will be sentenced on December 19th, where he will face up to ten years in prison and $25,000 in fines.
