Tyler Briggs
MADISON, WI (WSAU) — A Wausau man caught with more than 1.5 pounds of meth in his backpack is facing federal charges.
A federal grand jury indicted Tyler Briggs on October 8th, though no official announcement was made at that time due to the ongoing federal government shutdown.
Briggs was arrested in Wausau last January after officers received a tip saying he would be bringing a large amount of meth to town. The tip came as the result of an investigation and raid into a drug house on the city’s southwest side.

Authorities caught up to the 31-year-old outside a Thomas Street business, where they discovered 750 grams of the drug in his backpack, valued at more than $26,000.
Court records show the state case against Briggs was dismissed on Wednesday. Federal court records, obtained by WAOW TV, confirmed the indictment on Friday. An officer with the Wausau Police Department also confirmed the federal charges to WSAU News following the dismissal of the state charges.
No further federal court action was immediately scheduled.
