WAUTOMA, WI (WSAU-WAOW) – Charges are being referred after a high school student in Waushara County reportedly threatened to carry out a shooting targeting law enforcement. Wautoma High School was placed on lockdown Thursday as officers responded.
The Waushara County Sheriff’s Office reports a call came into the county’s dispatch center around 1pm Thursday about a potential concern about a student at Wautoma High School. She was referred to call the school directly. Minutes later the dispatch center received a second call advising the student may have a weapon.
At 1:30p,the sheriff’s office reports Chief Mott, of the Wautoma Police Department, contacted them about the same incident. After advising the dispatch center that the suspected student wanted to shoot law enforcement, Mott then requested officers be notified.
Some time passed before a school resource officer at the school confirmed the student was in custody.
No weapons were found, and according to the Wautoma Police Department, the 16-year-old now faces charges of threatening law enforcement, resisting arrest, and disorderly conduct.
Officials credit school staff and law enforcement for their swift actions.
