BAYFIELD, WI (WSAU) — Former State Legislator Fred Clark is the latest person to announce a run for the 7th Congressional District seat.
The Democrat announced his run in a two-minute YouTube video, saying “We’re all starting to pay more for the things we need because this Congress refused to stop an insane tariff war against our best trading partners and unbelievably, they just voted for a massive handout to billionaires that will add $3.4 trillion to our national debt while taking health care away from 270 thousand Wisconsinites who need it the most, leaving the rest of us to pay more for health care that’s just getting worse.”
Clark is a forester and small business owner who represented the 81st Assembly District from 2013 to 2015 and the 42nd Assembly District from 2009-2013. He famously moved his desk outside the Capitol building in 2011 to meet with residents who said they were having a difficult time accessing the building in the wake of protests against then-Governor Scott Walker.
Two other candidates have entered the race to replace Tom Tiffany, who is running for Governor in 2026 but intends to finish out his current term. Republican Jessi Ebben announced her candidacy last week. Democrat Chris Armstrong is also in the running, meaning there could be a primary on that side of the ballot next August.
